Bryon Mills (December 24, 1948-Sept 7, 2025) After 76 years of hunting and fishing, watching Rider games and movies, laughing and swearing at online videos, blasting rock n roll in his truck, and visiting with family and friends, Bryon Mills of Saskatoon, SK died at Royal University Hospital on the morning of September 7, 2025.
He was born on Christmas Eve 1948, in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, the only child of parents John and Bessie Mills. He grew up in Chaplin, Saskatchewan where his lifelong passion for sports and the outdoors flourished.
In the early 1970s, he became a father for the first time, with the birth of his son JP, followed shortly by a daughter, Tina. Years later, while working as a city bus driver in Moose Jaw, SK, Bryon met the love of his life, Fran-or as he would lovingly call her "Frannie/Frankie." They moved to Alberta, where they married and would welcome Laura, the first of two children they would have together. Soon after, they would return to Saskatchewan and would complete their family with the birth of Peter in Regina, SK. In the late 1980s, Bryon and Fran would settle in Saskatoon, SK, where they moved to open their fishing tackle shop, Hook Line & Sinker.
A born salesman and storyteller, Bryon loved to build relationships with clients and customers, many of whom would become life-long friends. He worked numerous jobs across his life, but the happiest moments of his career came from guiding hunting and fishing trips in northern Saskatchewan.
As much as he loved to socialize, Bryon also cherished his solitude and the countless hours he spent driving behind the wheel of his truck or sitting quietly with his thoughts in a tree stand or a ground blind. In 2009 he fulfilled a lifelong dream of travelling to Africa-a trip his own father had dreamed of taking as well. The countless stories, photos, and treasures he brought back from that adventure brought him great joy throughout the rest of his life.
Bryon's passion for hunting and fishing came from a deep appreciation of nature and conservation. He was a strong advocate for ethical hunting and fishing and instilled these values in his children, with whom he enjoyed passing on his knowledge of the great outdoors. He loved animals, including his childhood dog, and despite not owning a pet as an adult, he always had a box of dog treats on hand for when his "grand dogs" Sandor and Rex came to visit.
Bryon will be lovingly missed by his wife Fran, his children & their partners JP & Nicole, Laura & Ron, and Peter & Brittney, as well as his grandchildren Sophia, Cooper, Xavier, and Violet. He also leaves behind countless other family members and friends who will no doubt remember his big laugh and even bigger hugs. We hope that by sharing stories of the fun and mischief he got into through the years everyone who misses him can find a bit of comfort.
At his request, there will be no formal service and in accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. His life will be celebrated privately by his immediate family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
