Dean Edward Deobald

It is with profound sadness that the family of Dean Edward Deobald announce his peaceful passing on August 10, 2026, at the age of 62 at 2:34 AM at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, following a long and courageous battle with terminal cancer.

Dean was born on January 3, 1964, in Kincaid, Saskatchewan, to loving parents Barbara Flore Deobald (nee Caza) and Harvey Phillip Joseph Deobald, he was the eldest of four children. He enjoyed a warm and caring upbringing, spending his adventurous and fun childhood in Saskatchewan and Manitoba during the 1960s and 1970s.

A man of deep faith, Dean dedicated his life to seeking truth and serving God. At the age of 20, he became a Christian Missionary for 20 years.

Following his divorce at the age of 36 years old, he met Arlene, and together they began a shared Spiritual Journey from Christianity to a conversion to the Judaism religion for almost 20 years they spent in practice, study and attendance to a local Synagogue within that time frame.

In 2020, Dean and Arlene and their children received the Kohen Gadol High Priest Torah blessings from the Holy Mt. Gerizim in Luza that journey culminated when Dean joined his wife Arlene in the Israelite Samaritan Community on Mount Gerizim in Kiryat Luza in Nablus Shechem Samaria in the West Bank, devoting himself as a proselyte to the Covenant and Ancestral Heritage after Arlene discovered her own lineage through her father Loreto from The Tribes of Joseph son Menashe and her mother Juliana from The Tribe of Benjamin. Dean (Hebrew Israelite Name: Elazar ben Abraham) and Arlene (Covenantal Israelite Hebrew Name: Maryaam bat Loreto ben Menashe ben Yoosef ben Yishraael) remained united in their Holy Torah Covenant, keeping the Sabbath laws, Festivals, and keeping the Laws of Teruma (tithes) and the Five Principles of the Israelite Samaritan Torah and Tradition until the end of his life while living in Saskatchewan, Canada outside the Holy Land in Mt. Gerizim, Luza Shechem Nablus Samaria, West Bank.

Dean was a loyal and loving husband, father, and brother. He worked as a journeyman painter at the Canadian Forces Military base detachment Dundurn SK. where he was a respected tradesman and a quiet, steady presence. He was always ready to lend a hand or go the extra mile for those he loved and people around him.

Through a majority of the fight with his illness, and eventually even late stage cancer, he continued to wake up and go to work early every morning. He was funny. A hard worker, and truly one of a kind. There will never be anyone quite like him, anyone who knew him would tell you that. We'll all miss him, his laughter, his smiles, and his presence. We all love him very much.

Dean was predeceased by: his grandfather Phillip Deobald, his grandmother Marie Deobald (nee Seifriedt) , Norman Caza, and his father Harvey Phillip Joseph Deobald, his mother Barbara Flore Deobald (remarried later to Lorne Maygard) (nee Caza), and his brother Darren Harvey Deobald.

Dean is lovingly remembered and survived by: his wife, Arlene Tan Deobald (nee Alvarez); his children, Garrett Dean Deobald, Ruth Rachel Deobald, and Aaron Benjamin Deobald; his stepchildren, Christian Edward Alvarez and Justin Alvarez; his siblings, LaVonne West (nee Deobald) and her husband Trent West and Drew Deobald and his wife Sheri Deobald; and his grandmother Laurentia Caza (nee Gouin) as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

A funeral service was held on August 11, 2026 at 1:00 pm in the afternoon, arrangements were entrusted to Prairie View Cremation and Memorial Services. Dean Edward Deobald - his Israelite Hebrew Name: Elazar ben Abraham burial took place in accordance to the Torah based Traditional Plain Wood Casket and he was laid to rest in Dundurn Hillside Garden Cemetery.
