It is with sorrowful hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Helen May Campbell (Thode). She passed peacefully on January 14, 2026, at 88 years old.
Mom was born in Dundurn Sask., Jan.19, 1937, fifth of seven kids, to Lester and Catherine Thode. She grew up in Dundurn. After grade 11, she attended Saskatoon business college, and went on to a secretarial position for Captain Mcdougall at the Dundurn Military base.
Mom married Dad (Vernon Libke), when she was 19, and had her first of seven children when she was 21. She and our father raised their family on the farm they purchased together 13 miles east of Dundurn for 13 years. Fortunately, Mom didn't live long enough to witness the legacy of the farm leaving the family. Mom moved back to Dundurn to reside in the house she grew up in in 1972, and was there until she wasn't able.
Mom loved her family and gardening. When real flowers weren't in season, she always found great joy in the brilliant colours of artificial. She and her husband Jack enjoyed doing "communities in bloom" for the community.
Mom was a terrific story teller, and loved to tell stories from the past...
She always had a great love of music, and loved to play the piano and the organ. When she played "the run around song" (in the mood), it got everyone going, and put a smile on everyone's face. It became the regular request from the grandchildren.
She loved to dance, and always had the radio on, so it was not unusual to "bust a move' in the kitchen at any given time.
She cherished and was grateful for her beautiful home and yard. She was a "home body", and took great pride in decorating it "just right".
In later years, she really lost the desire to venture out much, but always had a warm welcome for anyone who cared to stop in for a visit. It usually included an iced tea and a peppermint.
In addition to her parents, Mom was predeceased by her son; Tom, her grandson; Dreyden, her first husband; Vern Libke, her current husband; Jack Campbell, 2 Sisters; Marion and Edna, 3 brothers; Herb, Walter and Leonard, Multiple Aunt's, Uncle's and Cousins, including Aunt Daisy who moved to live beside Mom for a few years.
She is survived by 2 sons; Dan (Kim) Libke, Joe Libke. 4 daughters; Holly (Dean) Stewart, Michele (Stu) Morrison, Shauna (Danny) Surminsky, LeAnne (Geoff) Proteau. Her sister Sylvia, 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, along with many other family, neighbours and friends, who will miss her dearly, and remember her forever.
Mom was a proud and loving Mother, and a cherished Grandmother. She leaves us a legacy of Love, Strength, Wisdom, and Compassion that lives on in all of us......
A service will be announced at a later date.
