Illa Davies

May 16, 1949 — April 29, 2025

Illa Rose Davies (nee Kirkness) passed away peacefully in Saskatoon on April 29, 2025, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a beacon of love, kindness, and unwavering generosity who took immense pride in her family. With a heart as wide as the prairie sky, her radiant smile and contagious laughter brought warmth to everyone around her.

Born on May 16, 1949, in Saskatoon to Rose and Russell Kirkness, from an early age - Illa was full of energy, grace and determination. These qualities defined the way she lived her life. A gifted and accomplished athlete, she was an avid ball player and proudly played for the Canadian Women's National Softball Team who represented Canada in worlds at Japan in 1969. She was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame for her part in the Saskatoon Imperials, who were the Canadian Ladies' Softball Champions in 1969 and 1970. Her love of sports extended to curling and bowling where she competed nationally, always attributing her success to the talent of those around her. She transitioned from player to coach, sharing her love of sports and inspiring others to play.

Her commitment and dedication to what she set her sights on translated into her career and family. Illa spent much of her professional life at SaskTel, where she met her husband, John Davies. Together, they built a loving home and raised three children: Kimberly, Marcy, and Russell. Their home, whether in Saskatoon, Regina, or Fort Qu'Appelle was always a warm and welcoming place for all.

Illa is predeceased by her beloved husband John, her parents Russell and Rose Kirkness, her parents-in-law Frank and Anne Davies, and her brother-in-law David Woodward. She is lovingly remembered by her children Kimberly (Korey), Marcy (Brad), and Russell (Jessica); her cherished grandchildren Amelia, Waylon, and Autumn; her brother Earnie (Dianne) Kirkness; her sisters-in-law Kathleen Woodward (David), Peggy Davies, and Sylvia (Andrew) Davies; and her nieces, nephews and special friends she considered family.

A private celebration of Illa's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Breast Cancer Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society, causes close to Illa's heart.

Although Illa is gone, she will forever live in the hearts of those that loved her. She is reunited with her true love, John.
