Sophie Holowaty

Our mom, Sophie Holowaty, was born on the Zuchkan family farm and was delivered by her grandmother, Sophie Zuchkan (who was a midwife). Mom grew up in the Parkerview, Saskatchewan district with her parents, Peter and Katie Zuchkan, as well as her siblings Annie and Matt.

Mom married the love of her life, Anany, on December 13, 1952. They had three children: Linda (Terry) Zemluk, Boris (Ros) and Alan (Karen). They also had 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, whom they enjoyed spending time with. Mom and Dad farmed five miles east of Foam Lake until they decided to semi-retire and build a house in Saskatoon, where they enjoyed entertaining and making lots of new friends.

The family farm was a very labour-intensive business. Mom grew huge gardens; she was Dad's right-hand helper, hauling grain and handling all other farming tasks. They worked together and played together, always making time for family and friends. In their earlier years, they travelled to many parts of Canada, the U.S. and the Bahamas on one occasion.

Mom was predeceased by our Dad on October 16, 2022 and also her parents and siblings, Annie (Mike) Kaban and Matt. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. also, by her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Holowaty and Jean Zuchkan. It's been a long and arduous struggle for you, Mom. Rest in peace. We'll cherish all the memories we have and miss you forever. At Mom's request, there will be a Celebration of Life attended by immediate family only.
