"Vic" Victor Bernard Walker

Victor Bernard Walker was born in Estevan, Saskatchewan to Floyd and Berna Walker. Vic was the youngest in the family and was predeceased by his parents and 5 siblings Harold, Cliff, Myrl, Helen and Kenneth (died in infancy), and his wife, Phyllis.

Our Dad, Vic, passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2026 at the age of 94. A positive, 'glass half-full' type of man, Dad lived a full, rich life and had a wide social circle of friends from his many interests and activities.

Vic joined Kinsmen in his early 20's and the Kinsmen and K-40 clubs provided 70 years of camaraderie, friendship and social connection. He served on the executive including time as Club President, and volunteered regularly with the clubs. Dad thoroughly enjoyed the social aspect of Kinsmen and K-40 (BBQs, fancy dress parties, bonspiels and conventions) and the speakers at the dinner meetings always kept him learning something new. He was engaged with the world, reading the newspaper daily, and always had opinions to share. His mind remained sharp until the end of his life.

Over the years, Vic enjoyed attending live performances, travelling, the cabin at Carlyle Lake when he lived in Estevan, camping, downhill skiing, wine making and playing cards but golf and jazz were his life-long passions. Vic felt that any day on the golf course was a good day. Jazz was key to Vic's identity. He was an enthusiastic music lover and nearly every family visit to Saskatoon involved a jazz show at The Bassment or Broadway Theatre. He even took up piano lessons in retirement so he could learn to play his favorite tune, Satin Doll.

After retirement from Wheaton Pontiac, Dad found a new passion with wood carving. As a teenager, he had worked at a printing press in Estevan and gained experience carving the templates used to make event posters. He specialized in relief wood carving and created amazing three-dimensional carvings which won him several prizes with the Saskatoon Woodworker's Guild.

Dad met Phyllis Westlund at a friend's wedding in 1956, and after spending most weekends driving to Moose Jaw where mom was a nurse, they married in 1958. Dad worked as an accountant for Trout Motors in Estevan where they began married life and their daughters, Judy and Sandy, were born. They moved to Saskatoon in 1967 when Vic joined Mid-City Motors. Dad worked in the automotive industry for many years with successive GMC dealerships and also had a foray into entrepreneurship with the Bokae Yogurt restaurants. Dad and Mom spent over 50 years together before Phyllis passed away in 2009.

Dad lived at his Tuscany Ridge condo for 15 years where he fully embraced the condo lifestyle, enjoying good friends and many social activities. The fact that Dad was able to work on his carvings in the condo workshop was an added bonus.

We are so fortunate to have had such a supportive father who was always there to help with a smile and share in the good times with laughter and love. His passing is a huge loss in our lives but we are thankful we were able to share in his love for so many years. He will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Judy (Ron) and Sandy, and grandchildren Adam, Steven, Alex (Georgiana), and Cynthia.

The family offers special thanks to the many thoughtful and caring staff of Trinity Manor at Stonebridge who supported Dad in his final years.

The Celebration of Vic's Life will be held at the Edwards Family Centre (333 4th Avenue North, Saskatoon) on Friday, September 11 with a short program to begin at 2:00 pm. Courtesy parking for guests will be available across the street at Saskatoon Funeral Home. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed. The link will be activated a few minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
